Xenon 1900/1902HD resolution for Data Matrix barcode is 5 mil (0.127 mm). However, this is a “passport data” for a general purpose scanner, measured when reading an almost ideal “paper labels” – Data Matrix symbols printed onto a white paper.
For DPM samples the resolution might be not as high as for the “ideal labels” – even if the print quality is very good, the surface/substrate, on which the symbol is planted, affect the image quality in most cases.
From our experience with this scanner, its effective “DPM resolution” - when using our Plugin - is about 7.5 mil (0.191 mm) and might be even lower (up to 10 mil) on some Dot Peen samples.
In this particular case the symbol might be readable on contact or close to contact if matrix dimension would be less than ~ 14x14 – module size ~ 7.1 mil. However, matrix dimension 16x16 makes the module size to be about 6.3 mil – too small to be decoded.
However, the best solution for this problem would be DPM Adapter with our Plugin.
